Memo Ochoa makes TEN saves in Salernitana’s shocking 1-1 draw vs. Inter Milan

Inter Milan's top four hopes took a major blow when Salernitana held them to a 1-1 draw on Friday after Antonio Candreva scored a 90th-minute equalizer against his former club while teammate Guillermo Ochoa made a string of exceptional saves.

Simone Inzaghi's Inter went ahead in the sixth minute when a flowing passing move ended with Romelu Lukaku heading the ball into the path of wing back Robin Gosens, who fired home his first goal since November.

Freiburg stun Bayern with 95th minute game-winning penalty and advance to DFB-Pokal semis

MUNICH — Freiburg stunned favorites Bayern Munich 2-1 in their German Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday thanks to a second-half stoppage-time penalty from Lucas Hoeler.

In a shock defeat for the Bundesliga leaders, in coach Thomas Tuchel's second game in charge, Hoeler sent keeper Yann Sommer the wrong way to book their spot in the last four.

"I am not really angry. We conceded two goals with two shots. I can't remember another chance from Freiburg," Tuchel said after his team missed out on the first trophy of the season.

3 midweek U.S. Open Cup games for your consideration

The Second Round of the 2023 U.S. Open Cup kicks off Tuesday with clubs from the third (USL1/NISA) and second (USLC) divisions now joining the fray — there will be cupsets.

After a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, 2022 was one of the competition's best years with Union Omaha (USL1) reaching the quarterfinals and Sacramento Republic (USLC) going all the way to the final before MLS side Orlando City won its first piece of major silverware.

I think Messi's going to Miami after watching Lyon beat a soulless PSG

There was an interesting moment during Saturday's MLS 360 show when analyst Shep Messing said he had "inside info" on a Lionel Messi move to MLS and that "it is going to happen and it's going to happen soon."

Like any great amateur sleuth, I then carefully watched PSG's home match against Lyon on Sunday looking for clues. I think I found them: Messi wants to get out of Paris like a bat out of hell.

Naples already preparing multi-day party for first Scudetto since Maradona era

NAPLES, Italy - The face of a young Diego Armando Maradona gazes down from a mural in Naples' Miracles Square, watching the city gear up for a celebration it hasn't enjoyed since the Argentine soccer star was at his peak more than 30 years ago.

Miracles for Neapolitans, who grew up in a city steeped in mysticism and superstition, are happening on the pitch, as their team cruise towards a third Serie A triumph and prepares for their first ever quarterfinal in the Champions League.

They've done it! Haiti's Violette knocks Austin out of Champions League

Damion Lowe scored just before halftime and the Philadelphia Union added three second-half goals to secure a 4-0 victory over El Salvador's Alianza FC on Tuesday in Chester, Pa., and a 4-0 win on aggregate in a CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 match.

Lowe headed home a corner kick from Kai Wagner at the start of first-half stoppage time for the first goal in the two-leg, total-goal series. The teams played a scoreless draw at San Salvador, El Salvador, last week.

Sorry Austin FC, it's impossible not to cheer for Violette AC on Tuesday

On Tuesday night we get the job done, and by "we" I mean Violette AC and all the CONCACAF Champions League sickos that fell head over heels for the club last Tuesday when they hammered Austin FC 3-0 in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie.

Serie B manager almost ends himself by celebrating win with a bicycle kick

With only nine matches remaining in the season, the battle to avoid relegation to Italy's third division is getting awfully serious in Serie B. The roll call of clubs teetering on the brink is pretty astonishing and includes recent Serie A competitors Venezia, Benevento, SPAL and Brescia.

Heading into Sunday, Cosenza sat dead last in 20th-place but hosted SPAL in a classic relegation six-pointer at Marulla Stadium. Cosenza desperately needed three points ahead of next weekend's trip to league leading Frosinone.

Liverpool lose to Bournemouth a week after beating Manchester United 7-0

BOURNEMOUTH — Liverpool's Mohamed Salah missed a second-half penalty as his side fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Bournemouth, with Philip Billing's goal lifting the south-coast side off the bottom of the Premier League table and out of the relegation zone.

The win in the first league game of the weekend sees the Cherries rise from last spot to 16th in the table on 24 points, while Liverpool languish in fifth on 42 points after wasting a chance to close the three-point gap to fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Richarlison puts Conte on blast for Tottenham's "s***" season

LONDON - Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison criticized manager Antonio Conte following Wednesday's Champions League last-16 exit, questioning the Italian's decision to bench him while declaring the north London club has had a "shit" season.

Spurs were knocked out of Europe's premier cup competition by AC Milan after failing to score in both legs as the Serie A club progressed 1-0 on aggregate.
