NWSL Won’t Play This Weekend After Paul Riley Bombshell

The National Women's Soccer League said this weekend's matches will not take place a day after a report detailed allegations of misconduct against former North Carolina Courage head coach Paul Riley.

The Athletic on Thursday outlined allegations of sexual coercion and misconduct by Riley, who led the Courage to back-to-back NWSL championships in 2018 and 2019, after speaking to more than a dozen players he coached since 2010.

How Did This Happen? Explaining The Sexual Coercion Allegations Against Courage Coach Paul Riley

Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, will be remembered as a dark, devastating day for women’s soccer in the U.S.

OL Reign’s Lyon Connection Was A Real Thing Of Beauty This Weekend

This is what Reign fans were hoping for when Olympique Lyonnais became the NWSL club’s majority owner last year. This is what fans of all the other NWSL teams were afraid of when one of the league’s best-supported clubs joined together with the most dominant force in European women’s football.

OL Reign’s Lyon connection paid massive dividends in a 3-0 win over the Orlando Pride on Sunday. Two Lyon stars linked up for one of the prettiest goals you’ll see all year, an intricate piece of passing that highlighted the quality of Europe’s best footballers.

Portland Thorns Bus Catches Fire In Chicago

The Portland Thorns have already won two trophies this year and sit six points clear atop the NWSL standings. They are on fire on the pitch. Unfortunately, they’re catching fire off the pitch too.

The bus carrying Thorns players and staff while on a road trip to play the Chicago Red Stars caught fire on Thursday evening. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Bethany’s Burritos: Balcer Details Her Insulting Reward For Winning 2019 NWSL Rookie Of The Year

I finally got around to watching the “LFG” documentary on the USWNT’s fight for equal pay earlier this week. My delay was mostly justified, as there wasn’t really any new information for anyone who has been paying attention to the saga over the last five years, but it was a good opportunity to see some of the world’s best footballers off the pitch and a strong reminder of the ongoing struggles women’s soccer players face.

Christen Press Taking Time Away From Soccer For Mental Health

If there’s one thing you should take away from Season 2 of Ted Lasso, it’s that mental health is of utmost importance. Christen Press probably already knew this, and on Thursday the USWNT forward announced she would be stepping away from the beautiful game to focus on herself.

Nutmeg Queen Set To Make London Her New Home

Christen Press, Sam Mewis, Rose Lavelle, Abby Dahlkemper and Alex Morgan are all returning to the NWSL after brief stints in the FA Women’s Super League last season. But one USWNT star is sticking around: Tobin Heath.

One of the most entertaining footballers in the world, Heath has been searching for a European club to call home since the Olympics ended. It appears she’s found one in the only English club to win a Women’s Champions League title: Arsenal.

Reports on Thursday said Heath had agreed to personal terms to join Arsenal on a free transfer from Manchester United.

Orlando Pride's Ashlyn Harris Breaks NWSL All-Time Saves Record

Ashlyn Harris has been one of the most consistent and hardworking goalkeepers in NWSL history, and she's been highlighted for her penalty kick saves and clean sheet records with the Orlando Pride. This year alone she's made five straight penalty saves and won eight NWSL Save of the Week honors.

As she continues to be a brick wall in goal, this past weekend Harris broke the NWSL all-time saves record while playing against Gotham FC.

USWNT Players Call On U.S. Government To Help Their Afghan Counterparts

Alex Morgan, Becky Sauerbrunn and five other prominent NWSL stars signed on to a letter sent to the U.S. State Department asking the American government expedite the evacuation of Afghan women’s national team players from the country where the Taliban recently took power.

Alex Morgan On Scooping Dog Poo And Whether She’s Actually A Cat Person

There is nothing more important to a household than the family pets. Well, maybe the humans, but Alex Morgan knows even that is pushing it.

“Dog — cats — alpacas — people,” Morgan said in her latest tier-ranking of animals, obtained exclusively by The18 thanks to an interview set up by Stella & Chewy’s, which makes food for the top two animals on the USWNT star’s ranking.
