The disciplinary commission of the French League (LFP) on Monday said that Lyon would play their Ligue 1 home games behind closed doors until it rules on the incident on Dec. 8 after an investigation.

Shaqiri Forgot He Was 5 Feet 7 Inches Tall And Crash Landed Into Net After Trying To Grab Crossbar

Xherdan Shaqiri had a hilarious fail during Lyon’s Europa League clash with Sparta Prague on Thursday when he had an unexpected visit with Prague’s net.

Shaqiri was streaking in toward Prague’s goal and just missed out on a close-range opportunity. With no way to slow down before crashing into the goal Shaqiri opted to pull out the old trick of hanging onto the crossbar to stop himself. This trick is quite popular in youth soccer despite every goal coming with a warning not to swing on the crossbar.

OL Reign’s Lyon Connection Was A Real Thing Of Beauty This Weekend

5 Reasons To Watch Ligue 1 Not Named Messi

Ligue 1 gets a lot of shit these days. As the fifth-best league in Europe, it’s often derided as a “farmer’s league” by the snobbier football fans. Anyone who has actually paid attention to Ligue 1 over the last few years knows this isn’t the case. With the addition of Lionel Messi to the league now official, here are five reasons you should watch Ligue 1 not named Messi.

One Of The Greatest Dynasties In Sports History Has Just Come To An End

Olympique Lyonnais, one of the best sports dynasties ever, has been dethroned.

After 14 straight D1 Féminine titles — which coincided with seven Champions League crowns — Lyon will end the 2020-21 season without either trophy, a remarkable end to one of the most dominant teams we’ve ever seen.

Peter Bosz Appointed To Take Over At Lyon

Across Europe, there are still games to be played and honors to be won. Besides the Champions League, several leagues are still in the midst of promotion playoffs. But the mayhem of managerial turnover is well underway.

Women’s International Champions Cup Returns With 3 Of The World’s Best — And Houston?

The Covid-19 pandemic had many sporting casualties in 2020. While nothing compares to the immense (and ongoing) loss of life, U.S. soccer fans were denied the opportunity to pay NFL-level prices to watch preseason friendlies between indifferent European clubs in the International Champions Cup. Similarly, the less-promoted but far-more-interesting Women’s International Champions Cup was canceled in 2020.
