Remembering John Brooks’ Greatest USMNT Moment 8 Years Later; Can He Make It To Qatar?

The look of surprise, nay, disbelief, is what I remember most. A towering 6-4 frame had just headed in his first career international goal, and it couldn’t have come at a more important moment. On the eighth anniversary of his goal against Ghana, we have to wonder if John Brooks will ever get another chance on the world stage.

Away From Home Woes Continue For USMNT

Those who tuned in to the USMNT match against El Salvador last night expecting to see a soccer game may not have been able to recognize the final product on the pitch. U.S. Coach Gregg Berhalter previously stated his intention to use the game to evaluate players on the fringes of making the World Cup roster, but the conditions made that task a virtually impossible one.

Aussie Keeper Caught On Video Throwing Peru Goalie’s Water Bottle With PK Cheat Sheet Into Stands

Australia’s backup goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne made himself a legend on Monday with his bizarre antics during a penalty shootout against Peru to send his country to the World Cup. We’ve now learned that he’s not crazy after a Redmayne water bottle incident with Peru’s goalkeeper was caught on camera.

Redmayne isn’t some bearded goof; he’s a cold and calculated evil villain. Every good story needs a villain.

The Evolution Of Official FIFA World Cup Posters Through The Years

Dating back to the inaugural FIFA World Cup held in Uruguay in 1930, each rendition of the tournament has been accompanied by an official poster from FIFA. Artists who’ve worked on these gorgeous designs include Guillermo Laborde (1930), Joan Miro (1982) and Annie Leibovitz (1986), to name just a few. Today, FIFA unveiled the official poster for the 2022 event in Qatar.

It's created by Qatari artist Bouthayna Al Muftah and depicts traditional headwear being thrown in the air — a symbol of celebration and fandom across Qatar and the Arab world.

Ruthless Hungary Hands England Worst Home Defeat Since 1928

WOLVERHAMPTON, England - Hungary thrashed a dreadful England 4-0 away on Tuesday to go top of their Nations League group and perpetuate the hosts' winless run in a competition they had hoped would be a morale-boosting warmup for the World Cup.

With only one goal and two points in their first three games of this Nations League campaign, England dominated early possession at the Molineux and could have gone ahead had Jarrod Bowen been sharper with a close-range header.

Costa Rica's Golden Generation Earns Third Straight World Cup Finals Appearance

I'm over two years late to The Last Dance party on Netflix having just started the documentary last week, so forgive me for this. The show really is a stunning portrayal of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Phil Jackson, but I'd like to propose a different direction for the sequel — Last Dance 2: Los Ticos.

Keylor Navas takes on the Jordan role, Bryan Ruiz is Pippen, Celso Borges is Rodman and Joel Campbell is Steve Kerr.

Australia’s Goofy Ass Goalkeeper Sends Socceroos To World Cup

Years of World Cup qualifying came down to a few kicks from 12 yards out for Australia and Peru on Monday. In a dramatic shootout to decide the penultimate place at the 2022 World Cup, it was the goofy histrionics of Australia goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne that proved decisive.

Redmayne saved Peru’s sixth and final penalty attempt to send the Socceroos to the World Cup with a 5-4 shootout victory after a 0-0 draw on Monday at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Qatar. Australia will join Group D with France, Denmark and Tunisia in November.

It's Been 8 Years To The Day Since Robin Van Persie Took Flight At The World Cup

It's a little unsettling and depressing to think that, were things running as usual on the international calendar, we'd be at the start of the month-long carnival that is the World Cup.

June 13 has marked some unforgettable World Cup moments in the past, but none more so than what transpired eight years ago on this day at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, Brazil.

Pressure Builds Ahead Of Winner-Takes-All World Cup Playoff Between Peru And Australia

DOHA - Australia and Peru both came through playoffs to qualify for the last World Cup, but only one of them will advance this time round when they meet in their inter-continental playoff in Doha on Monday for a place at this year’s finals in Qatar.

Australia qualified for the 2018 finals by beating Honduras over two legs while Peru edged New Zealand for their place in Russia. This time, however, the two have been drawn to play each other in a single match at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium at Al Rayyan, one of the venues for the finals in November and December.
