Goalkeeper Strides Forward In The 94th Minute And Makes Magic

A German second division match was the sight of one of football’s great rarities today — the goalkeeper goal. With visitors Heidenheim leading 1-0 in the 94th minute against Union Berlin, Berlin goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz strove forward for a free kick just inside Heidenheim’s half.

After being played into the box, a neat little cutback eventually found its way to Gikiewicz, who towered over his marker and planted the equalizing header just inside the far post.

It should come as no surprise, but this was the first goal of Cikiewicz’s senior career.

Luka Modric Spurns Custom Nike ‘The Best’ Boots He Was Presented With In Favor Of Low-Key Pair

Shortly after capturing The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2018 award with 29.05 percent of the vote, Nike honored Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric with the Mercurial Vapor PE “Modric” boot. As the Nike press release detailed, “the boot’s full multi-chrome upper shines with an iridescent finish.” These are some gaudy boots.

Cristiano Ronaldo Again Not Chosen For Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal’s all-time leader in caps and goals, was again not chosen to represent his country in international fixtures this fall, with Portugal set to face Poland and Scotland later this month.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos confirmed the selection on Thursday in the wake of rape allegations against Ronaldo.

12 Of The Best Team Goals Ever

As Jean-Paul Satre once said, “In football everything is complicated by the presence of the opposite team.” Breaking down an opponent has puzzled the world’s brightest minds since the beginning of time, but this process has eventually yielded a collection of the best team goals ever.

Some of these goals are the finest examples of a style purveyed by a team throughout an era (Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, Spain’s golden generation, mid 90s Ajax, etc.), while some are simply instances of 11 footballers momentarily achieving authentic telepathic clairvoyance.

Chucky Assists On A Banger, But PSV’s Chucklehead Keeper Ruins The Day

PSV Eindhoven’s hopes of making it through to the Champions League Round of 16 took a massive blow Wednesday after Pablo Rosario’s smashing opener (assisted by Hirving “Chucky” Lozano) was canceled out by a whistling, 18-yard Radja Nainggolan half-volley and ultimately made meaningless by Mauro Icardi’s comedic winner in the 60th minute.
