As much as the UEFA Nations League wants you to believe these matches matter and they’re not just meaningless friendlies, is still a bit hard to get exciting about some of the European international matches this weekend with no major tournament on the horizon.
Women’s soccer is in the midst of an international break right now, which means, as some may be aware, yes, yes the USWNT is playing — but so are many others. One of these others is England, who scheduled a pair of friendlies against European competition as part of its World Cup preparations.
Manchester City put an end to Birmingham City’s unbeaten start to the 2018-19 FA Women’s Super League by defeating the Blues 3-2 Sunday, but the Citizens had to claw back from an early deficit after Abbie McManus skipped one over the head of goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck on a 50-yard back pass.
The good news for McManus is that this is still classified as being Beckham-esque, so there's absolutely no shame here.
