United States men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be pleased with his team’s 3-0 victory vs. Costa Rica on Wednesday. He might however be disappointed with his digestive system as he missed the USA’s second goal while back in the locker room.
We can’t confirm what he was doing not on the sidelines. Judging from his jogging form going back to the locker room, we have a pretty solid guess as to what was happening.
In the 77th minute Poch was spotted on camera doing a hasty jog to the facilities.

Unfortunately for Pochettino he suffered the most classic soccer curse there is. He looked away for one minute and someone scored.
Second half substitute Caden Clark doubled the USMNT’s lead seconds after Pochettino ran down the tunnel.

Pochettino was seen on the sidelines by the broadcast again in the 83rd minute.
It’s hard to imagine any U.S. fans being upset about the decision to leave the sideline in a meaningless friendly. The stands at Inter & Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida, were sparsely populated due to the temperature being in the low 40’s among other factors.
While the temperatures were cool, Pochettino’s squad were hot as they cruised to victory with three solid goals.
Diego Luna set up Brian White for the opener in the 21st minute with a great ball to open the Costa Rican defense.

Starting goalkeeper Zack Steffen had one of his best performances in a USMNT shirt with several impressive saves.

The starting job for USMNT goalkeeper is up for grabs with usual starter Matt Turner logging just two games for Crystal Palace this season. Steffen made a strong case on Wednesday for him being the starter.
Clark would double the lead in the second half with a sizzling strike that we’re sure Pochettino heard from the facilities.
Patrick Agyemang got in on the scoring fun with a powerful strike in the 90th minute to make it 3-0. The 24-year-old also scored in the USMNT’s friendly vs. Venezuela on Saturday.

Up next for the USMNT will be the return of the “A-Team” as the USMNT face Panama in the Concacaf Nations League semifinal on March 20.
