In Memoriam: A Look Back At The Soccer Stars Who Died In 2014

2014 saw the deaths of some prominent figures in the soccer community. We here at The18 thought it would be a good idea to honor those who passed away this calendar year with mini bios on each of the departed. The soccer community already misses these individuals.

Ronaldo Has A New Statue. And Something Is In Its Pocket (Or It Is Pretty Excited To See You).

Cristiano Ronaldo is from Madeira, a little island off of the coast of Portugal and it is not surprising that his persona is probably the biggest export to come from the petite island. The Real Madrid goal-scoring machine (who has 25 goals in 15 La Liga matches) has a museum dedicated to his likeness on the island, and this past weekend they added another memento to honor the Portuguese star: A statue.

Except there are two problems with this statue.

#1: It looks nothing like Cristiano Ronaldo:

Juventus Does Halloween In Style

Juventus plays Empoli this weekend as they try to keep pace with Roma atop the Serie A table. But it's also Halloween and the players of Juve don’t want to miss out on the fun just because they have a game.

So, players Leonardo Bonucci, Claudio Marchisio, Simone Padoin and Marco Storari participated in a little target practice at training. This was pretty low-key compared to their antics last year. After the video check out the photos that were posted on Juventus.com last Halloween.

It seems like Juve are the best team to celebrate the holiday with.

Let’s take a look at some of the best and worst costumes from the past couple of years:

How To Tell If Your Friends Are Real Fans Of Liga MX

Liga MX is one of the most popular leagues in the world, only more so as the popularity of soccer rises around the world. But what do you do if you are suspicious your friends have only started to follow a Liga MX team in the name of glory hunting, or simply as a flavor-of-the-week? Well, you read this list, that’s what.

1. Saying, “Odiame Mas,” either makes them your best friend or worst enemy.

What Really Happened to the World Cup Trophy?

So apparently Germany broke the World Cup trophy. This isn’t the first time a team has broken their championship hardware. Sergio Ramos dropped the Copa del Rey trophy, Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators dropped the NCAA's crystal basketball, and who knows what really happens to the Stanley Cup every year...and those are just a couple.
