U.S. Soccer Gets First Female President As Carlos Cordeiro Resigns In Disgrace

U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro resigned on Thursday after taking responsibility for language in a federation court filing that "caused great offense and pain" and prompted an on-field protest by the national women's team.

The women's team sued the national federation for gender discrimination just over a year ago in a lawsuit that included complaints about wages and working conditions.

A trial date has been set for May 5 after talks between the two parties broke down.

Former USWNT Players Among Those Calling For U.S. Soccer President To Resign

Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated published a column late Wednesday night stating U.S. Soccer Federation president Carlos Cordeiro should resign. Now former USWNT players are echoing those sentiments while current players continue to bash the Federation for sexism and misogyny.

UEFA will hold a video conference meeting of all 55 football federations in Europe plus representatives of clubs, leagues and players to discuss the impact of the coronavirus on all football in the region including Euro 2020, it said Thursday.

UEFA has so far declined to discuss whether Euro 2020, which will be held in 12 different countries around Europe between June 12 and July 12, will be postponed or venues altered.

UEFA said the meeting would be held next Tuesday and that "discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020".

USSF Claimed MNT Requires More Skill, So USWNT Proved It Wrong With 2 Insane Goals

With the USWNT’s lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation nearing its May court date, we’re learning more about how the Federation is planning to defend itself. Essentially, it appears the USSF will argue men are superior to women and the USMNT requires greater skill and responsibility than the USWNT.

The two-time defending world champions disagree.

106th-Ranked Zambia Women Qualify For First-Ever Olympics After Stunning Upset

The Zambia women’s national team has made history by qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games after upsetting Cameroon in the final of the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

After defeating Botswana in the quarterfinals and Kenya in the semis, Zambia entered the final a full 57 spots below Cameroon in the FIFA world rankings. What’s more, Cameroon’s program had the experience of qualifying for London 2012 followed by back-to-back Round of 16 appearances at the 2015 and 2019 Women’s World Cups. Zambia, on the other hand, had never qualified for the Olympics or a World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has given club and country a major boost after returning to training following a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since Jan. 1.

Television footage showed England's captain training at Tottenham's training ground on Monday, albeit not with the rest of the first team preparing for Tuesday's Champions League last 16, second leg at RB Leipzig.

"Love being back on the grass with a ball at my feet," Kane said on Twitter.

Rapinoe And Sauerbrunn Blast Timing Of U.S. Soccer Letter That’s ‘Riddled With Falsehoods’

Members of the U.S. women's national soccer team voiced frustration on Sunday in the ongoing back-and-forth with their federation over pay equality, as a May 5 trial date in their well-publicized lawsuit against U.S. Soccer inched closer.

At issue was a letter to membership released on Saturday in which U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro said the federation "offered to provide identical compensation to our women's and men's players for all matches controlled by U.S. Soccer."

Thank God For Julie Ertz

Much like they did during their 2019 World Cup Round of 16 match against the USWNT, Spain brought its sauce today with equal measures of intricate passing shapes and technical quality. During that 2-1 U.S. victory back in France, it was a shock to the system to see La Roja actually edge the possession statistic in the second half — today, they absolutely bossed it with 60 percent of the ball.

Gio Reyna, The Next Great American, Could Choose To Instead Play For Argentina, England, Portugal

He’s just 17, but the whole world is watching him. And everyone wants to know what nationality Gio Reyna decides to represent at the senior level.

Giovanni Reyna is the 17-year-old son of Claudio Reyna, a former USMNT captain who appeared 112 times for the U.S. Gio has appeared more than two dozen times with the U.S. at the youth level, so it’s a given he’ll make his debut with the senior national team with the U.S. eventually, right?

It might not be so simple.

Dennis Rodman’s Daughter Scores Two Gorgeous Goals To Send USA To U-20 Women’s World Cup

The USWNT is heading to the U-20 Women’s World Cup in August, and former NBA star Dennis Rodman is, oddly enough, part of the reason why.

The USWNT clinched its spot in the U-20 WWC with a 6-0 over the Dominican Republic in the semifinals of the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship on Friday in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Dennis Rodman’s daughter, Trinity Rodman, had two impressive goals and two assists to help the Americans cruise to victory.
