Afghan Girls’ Soccer Squad Dreams Big After Finding New Home In Portugal

LISBON - Leaving her homeland Afghanistan was painful, says 15-year-old Sarah. But now safely in Portugal, she hopes to pursue her dream of playing soccer professionally — and perhaps meeting her idol, star striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sarah was one of several players from Afghanistan's national female youth soccer squad who fled their country in fear after the Taliban hardline Islamist movement seized power in August. Portugal has granted asylum to the young footballers.

Mexican Federation, 17 Clubs Fined $9M For Colluding On Female Salaries, Transfers

MEXICO CITY - Mexico's antitrust authority on Thursday fined more than a dozen soccer clubs and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) in a historic move over salary caps for female players and labor movement restrictions.

The FMF, 17 clubs and eight unidentified people were handed fines totaling $8.9 million, according to a statement by Cofece, the antitrust authority.

Dozens Of Young Afghan Female Footballers Reach Pakistan To Seek Asylum

LAHORE, Pakistan — Players from Afghanistan's female youth soccer teams have arrived in Pakistan and will seek political asylum in third countries amid concern over the status of female athletes under the new Taliban government in Kabul.

Some 81 people, including female players of several youth teams, their coaches and family members reached Pakistan through the Torkham border crossing, Umar Zia, a senior Pakistan Football Federation official, said on Wednesday. A further 34 will arrive on Thursday, he said.

What I’ve Learned From All The Hate Mail Supposed Carli Lloyd Fans Sent Me

I’m pretty used to getting hate mail these days. When you discuss human rights in relation to soccer, people get pretty upset and are not afraid to send anonymous emails spewing hatred toward me, which ironically proves my point more often than not. 

I’ve never gotten as much hate mail as I have this week when I reported on Carli Lloyd refusing to join her teammates in kneeling to protest the ongoing racial inequalities in the U.S. and around the world. 

Some Absolute Moron At Juventus Just Lost Their Job Over Shockingly Racist Tweet

The person in charge of the Juventus women’s Twitter account needs to be fired ASAP after posting a racist tweet. The racist Juventus tweet in question is about as blatant as they come. The post was up for 26 minutes (26 minutes too long) and featured Italian player Cecilia Salvai mocking Asian people. Here is the racist Juventus tweet.
