I’d like to turn you on to a couple things: (1) Red Star FC (not to be confused with Red Star Belgrade) — a 123-year-old club (France’s second-oldest) in Paris that currently plays in the third division and essentially stands in direct opposition to everything PSG. Red Star is unapologetically anti-corporate, rooted in social activism and deeply connected with the working class. (2) Acid FC — a London design collective that seeks to disrupt and enlighten football culture “through psychedelic means.”
Put the two together and you have Red Star’s kits for the 2020-21 season.
Inspired by the world-famous flea market in Saint-Ouen (the northern suburb of Paris where Red Star’s Stade Bauer ground is located), the adidas shirts have a remarkable toile de Jouy decorating pattern that “contains symbols, players and fans that all go in to make the exclusive DNA of the club.”
The club’s kit sponsor is also Vice Media, which adds to the whole gonzo aesthetic.
