Lisa Baird was named commissioner of the NWSL in February 2020 and she came in wanting to make changes throughout the league and for women’s sports as a whole. As a female in power she has found herself in a position that is becoming more common as women are making their way into top positions in the sports world.
Baird has already made huge changes in the NWSL that have given these female ballers a platform they have never had before. Her expertise in her previous jobs has been in building brands and commercial business, and she definitely prides herself on taking over the U.S. and making professional women’s soccer well-known. Lisa Baird’s background and her drive to change the way female sports are perceived have given her success thus far. She seems to know she is doing an extraordinary job after her mic-drop response to a Budweiser tweet. Budweiser is a sponsor of the NWSL and they should bend the knee to the new queen of the NWSL.
I took on the job of Commissioner of the National Womens Soccer League on March 10, shut down the league on March 12th — we were the first us league back to play, compensated our players for a full season and posted a 500 percent TV ratings increase

Or should we say Queen of our favorite women? pic.twitter.com/fcvwFY8xNF

Lisa Baird could not have responded with a better come back. She speaks the truth and running a league that successfully played a tournament in the midst of a pandemic with zero positive cases, increasing TV ratings by 500 percent and having the highest social media engagement across all professional sports is definitely something to brag about. Her leadership has transformed the NWSL tremendously in only a few months and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.
