Australia played their final Women’s World Cup match on Aug. 19 which means that Kerr proposed shortly after the tournament. While the USWNT were eliminated in the Round of 16, Mewis stayed in Australia to support Kerr.
The location of the proposal is unclear and in a moment of author transparency, I have no idea where it was. I’ve been scouring to find any information on where this took place and have failed you, apologies.
As for Kerr and Mewis, the pair of soccer stars will take their love to the next level. The first sign of their relationship came in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics when they shared a tender moment of sportsmanship on the field following the bronze medal game.
Despite the distance between the two, Mewis playing her club ball for Gotham in the States and Kerr playing in London with Chelsea, they’ve managed to make the relationship work.
In the interview with PEOPLE Mewis said that Kerr has always been there for her.
“(She’s) just been everything,” Mewis said. “My biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain all, all of my crazy antics.”
Mewis and Kerr received a big wave of support from the women’s soccer community including Kerr’s sister Sam who commented that she was excited to have a new sister.
