A Cologne striker has finally scored — a role in a new movie. Peruvian Claudio Pizarro voices a character in the German-language version of the new animated Pixar film “Coco,” which is out now in a Kino near you (assuming you live in Germany).
Pizarro is an old man nearing the end of his career on the pitch. He may have found a new calling with his voiceover role in “Coco,” which is about a young Mexican boy who is transported to the Land of the Dead during Día de los Muertos. The 39-year-old voices a skeleton who desperately wants to watch a soccer match.

In America, “Coco” dominated the box office after it’s Nov. 22 release, making $89.6 million so far, or more than five times as much as Pizarro’s combined lifetime of transfer fees. The film came out in Germany on Thursday and because animated movies these days prefer to hire big-name stars instead of legitimate voice actors, Pizarro was given a chance to voice a minor character.
Pizarro is in his 18th Bundesliga campaign and thus is fluent in German but with a South American accent. He signed with Cologne in late September to help the team’s offensive struggles, but to this date only two forwards have scored in Bundesliga play. Pizarro has made four appearances so far, including one start, but has yet to score, registering as many fouls as shots.
Fortunately, he may have his second career sorted out. This Claudio Pizarro “Coco” role could be just the thing to shoot him back into relevancy.
