Boston’s new National Women’s Soccer League team announced their arrival with a testicle joke and one of, if not the worst team name we’ve ever seen. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the nut-sack haters themselves, BOS Nation FC.
For more information you can go to the domain that they registered, paid for and said “yeah, this is what we want to do.” That domain is toomanyballs.com.
No seriously, it’s actually toomanyballs.com.
Boston NWSL team name reveal
Entering: BOS Nation FC ⚽️
Thank you @Patriots , @RedSox , @NHLBruins , @celtics , and @NERevolution. The next chapter of Boston sports starts now pic.twitter.com/2DMtsvUc7k— NWSL Boston (@NWSLBoston) October 15, 2024
Boston's NWSL expansion franchise has unveiled its new name:

Fans have torn the team apart on social media, rightfully so, for what is perhaps the most bizarre campaign to announce a team. This brand reveal surely goes in the hall of shame for U.S. soccer teams.
The angle Bos Nation went for seems to be a misconstrued “girl power” theme about there being to many men’s sports in Boston. People immediately pointed out that BOS Nation ignored the Boston Fleet, the professional women’s hockey team founded last year.
Ball jokes don't really seem appropriate for a league that has been and continues to be plauged by sexual misconduct. https://t.co/R0bKKlYQVC

NWSL Boston may have girlbossed too close to the sun on this one. https://t.co/LJVaJ91Vkg

i just know somebody presented “girl bos nation” as an option at some point during this process and i just wonder how long it *stayed* on the table https://t.co/F7Grsizqa1

the marketing department for BOS Nation is either a room full of 13 year old boys or 53 year old women, there simply cannot be any in between

What's worse:
1. The name
2. The bizarre and exclusive too many balls campaign
3. That they ignore the PWHL team that plays in Boston https://t.co/1RmhiIqQoN— Ryan Rosenblatt (@RyanRosenblatt) October 15, 2024
, 0 effort, 0 imagination, 0 everything... also you guys know there is a professional Womens Hockey team in Boston right? RIGHT!?! @PWHL_Boston

This name is horrendous, please change it

My favorite part is imagining a group of people sitting around a desk brainstorming the elements for their reveal video and one person going, “you know what this needs? COLD BALLS.”
BOS Nation don’t appear to have any ties or callbacks to Boston’s former NWSL team, the Boston Breakers, who folded in 2018 after five seasons in the NWSL.
In case a rebrand happens, we'd like to officially offer up "Boston Tea FC" as a potential name. That's the tea.
A logo has yet to be revealed.
