Columbine’s Dylan Prichett-Ettner almost scored one of the greatest goals the world of football has ever seen. Unfortunately for Dylan and for fans of beautiful things, the goal was ruled out for offside. Honestly, it’s a travesty.
It’s not everyday that you see a perfectly executed somersault incorporated into a goal, but Dylan achieved just that with his attempt. A long ball over the top sees Columbine’s number seven racing in on goal.
The goalkeeper is quick off his line but fumbles the ball with Dylan coming in hot. The Columbine attacker avoids the keeper with a sensational somersault — perhaps taking inspiration from what’s transpired in Rio over the past few weeks.
His audacious technique is rewarded. He finds the ball at his feet and pokes home. The celebration is short lived as he spots the flag up on the far side.
It’s unfortunate, but that won’t stop us from watching this moment of magic hundreds of times.
