U.S. men’s national team star and Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic is expected to miss at least two months of action due to a knee injury.
Christian Pulisic Knee Injury
Pulisic’s injury came during Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Jan. 5. In the first half Pulisic had his shot blocked by John Stones. Pulisic would go down injured and be substituted out minutes later.
An excellent block by John Stones to prevent Christian Pulisic from potentially scoring.

Bad news for Christian Pulisic. Graham Potter: “Christian is gonna be out for a couple of months we think, hopefully less”. #CFC

Chelsea has not revealed the specific details of what is wrong with Pulisic’s knee. It’s one of the more frustrating aspects that American fans might not be used to. When there’s an injury in an American sport (NFL, NBA, etc.) we get to know exactly what’s been injured and the extent.
The leading hypothesis is that Pulisic is dealing with an MCL issue, likely a sprain.
Christian #Pulisic Latest:
Out around “couple months”. Still some variance in that timeframe - suggestive of Gr 2-3 sprain, likely MCL

For the American this is painfully familiar territory. This is the fourth season in a row that he will be sidelined for an extended period with an injury.
Pulisic Major Injury History By Season
- 22/23 Season: Knee injury (out for 2 months or more)
- 21/22 Season: Ankle injury (out for 2 months)
- 20/21 Season: Hamstring injuries (out for 3 months)
- 19/20 Season: Abductor tear (out for 5 months)
Not only will his knee troubles keep him from playing, but it likely means he won’t get to leave Chelsea this transfer window. It had been expected that Chelsea was going to allow Pulisic to leave on loan this winter. Manchester United and Newcastle were both interested in signing him.
